T he humble beginnings of See Hear Productions Ltd. date back to September 12th,1978 in Egypt near the Great Pyramid of Cheops. A travelling companion wore earings that day that looked just like eyeballs. It was an uncommon sight to see an eye on an ear, one which I photographed, perhaps not consciously knowing exactly why at the time. But I had been running a small creative ad boutique in Vancouver, Canada with reasonable success for some years and soon came to regard the photo as a kind of logo.
It seemed to say it all in terms of media communications. Eye, ear. See, hear. Radio, tv, music, film, print, ads for any media.
After relocating to Hong Kong in 1982 and working the substantial Asian English language media for a while, on June 1st, 1986, See Hear Productions Ltd. was finally founded and realized as a full fledged creative ad company, ready to tackle any media job that you could, well, see and/or hear.

From a client’s perspective, Hong Kong as headquarters, has an advantage in that it’s still wide open and unrestricted, which means there are no royalties, no residuals. Just buyouts. A radical idea for some, to simply pay a one-time fee for voice, creative writing, jingles and other original music, and not have to continue paying royalties for exposure of a client’s ad campaign which might go on forever. When I say, buyout, it means, one price, in perpetuity.

And for some clients, that is a decided advantage in working out budgetary considerations. Hong Kong is the media centre of Asia with all the cutting edge tools of the trade and See Hear Productions Ltd. has access to these facilities which means we are able to produce world class ads cheaper than London, New York and LA.

A few years ago when the internet became a reality, we were struck by the idea that seehear could now expand worldwide and deliver top quality productions for any medium over The Net to anywhere in the world.

Today, the original seehear logo is a thing of the past. It’s no longer a photographic rendering of an eye on an ear, now represented by two curved lines and a circle. But the work remains the same. To create the best and most creative advertising. And now, to deliver those ads as a download backed up by hardcopy in all formats to anywhere in the world.

We’ve won our share of awards and we like to be humorous whenever we can, but the bottom line remains. The right concept for the client who wants to be noticed in the adclutter of our daily lives.

And so, what began as a simple eyecatching (earcatching?) photo by the pyramids thousands of years old, we find ourselves reaching into the new millenium with ideas that become productions that might just shake the entire globe.
